History & Origins of the Log Cabin Block

One of the most beloved and symbolic patterns in quilt history. The red center square traditionally represented the hearth fire of a pioneer home, while the light and dark halves symbolized the sunlit and shadowed sides of the cabin. When rotated in sets, Log Cabin blocks produce stunning secondary layouts like Barn Raising, Straight Furrows, and Sunshine & Shadow.
